Hello everyone! Today we want to give a complete overview of everything that Generation 5 brought in its latest revisions: the original version 5.2 and its maturation patches 5.2.1 and 5.2.2.
If you're coming from version 5.0, you'll notice that Titalcruise E.A. focused on two fundamental pillars: polishing the visual experience and fixing those annoying hardware bugs that complicated deployment on netbooks and laptops.
Here we tell you about the entire changelog in detail.
Calamares Gets a Makeover
The star of this update is the TitalcruiseOS Installer. The Calamares-based wizard underwent a major overhaul to improve the experience from the very first second:
Interface Redesign: The header was cleaned up by removing the fixed version from the top bar to standardize the binary. It now features a dynamic subtitle that detects exactly which system to install.
Goodbye to Error 100: The Calamares engine has been reinstalled and reconfigured from scratch. This patch completely eliminates the bug that caused the installation to hang midway when interacting with partition tables or security keys.
Native Secure Boot: The installer now cleanly injects the signed bootloader. This allows the system to boot seamlessly on UEFI and machines with Secure Boot enabled without having to deal with previous configurations.
Kernel and Performance: Dynamic Preemptive Kernel 7.0.9
Under the hood, TitalcruiseOS continues to prioritize maximum speed and responsiveness on machines with limited resources:
Kernel 7.0.9+deb13: A next-generation kernel based on Debian 13.5 has been integrated.
PREEMPT_DYNAMIC flag: This parameter allows the system to adapt the kernel's behavior in real time, prioritizing processes that are currently running (such as your browser or studio tools) so that the machine feels much smoother.
Plymouth Patch: The boot system hooks have been fixed. Now, the graphical transition between loading the UEFI and booting is completely smooth, eliminating flickering and corrupted text that interfered with the animation.
Multimedia: PipeWire and Connectivity
One of the best tests of our Live environment is multimedia support, and in version 5.2.2 the experience is flawless:
PipeWire Audio Server: Implemented and polished out of the box. Forget about audio daemon restarts; switching between devices is instantaneous.
Bluetooth and Wired Audio in Live: You can connect your headphones via the 3.5mm jack or pair them wirelessly directly from Live mode. The system manages codecs and audio streaming in applications like Spotify without freezing or losing quality.
Integrated Proprietary Drivers: The list of wireless firmwares included by default has been expanded. The most demanding network and Bluetooth cards on the educational laptop market now work natively.
Refinement: GRUB
Because performance doesn't have to be boring, the visuals of Generation 5 remain true to its identity:
Custom Boot Menu: GNU GRUB features a clean redesign, a unified dark background, and a large, centered TitancruiseOS logo.
Optimized Desktop Environment: The base system comes configured with key extensions like Dash to Panel and Blur my Shell integrated on top of GNOME, offering a modern, translucent, and highly scannable desktop without consuming excessive RAM.
How to get it?
As always, optimized TitalcruiseOS 5.2 ISO images are available to the user and tester community through our official repositories and download mirrors.
Note: If you are performing a clean install, remember to check the physical health of your storage drives (you can use `sudo fdisk -l` in the Live terminal) to ensure an optimal file dump without read/write errors. If you encounter a 100 error in Calamares again, simply restart the machine. The base system is already installed; just remember to clean up the `sources.list` file and remove the entries from the previous live environment.
